Soliton’s remote system adopted for UK self-driving bus project
~ Utilizing a system using “Zao SDK”, UK Smart City Consulting strengthens self-driving bus operations ~
Soliton Systems Co., Ltd. (President: Osamu Kamata, hereinafter referred to as Soliton) is promoting the practical application of remote support systems to improve the operational efficiency of autonomous driving, and has so far been working with local governments, transportation operators, and automobile operators in Japan. We deliver to manufacturers, etc.
The video transmission solution “Zao SDK” that enables remote control of solitons has been adopted by Smart City Consultancy (SMCCL), a British urban transportation solution provider, and Ohmio, a global leader in connected autonomous vehicles. I would like to announce something.
This is the first time that a full-scale remote control system has been adopted in an overseas market.
SMCCL has introduced the ‘Zao SDK’ to enhance the safety and efficiency of self-driving buses as part of its ongoing smart city project in the UK.
This system enables remote control of self-driving buses when faced with complex situations, supporting safe operation.
Soliton’s Zao SDK utilizes multiple 4G and 5G cellular networks to transmit short-latency video from multiple cameras onboard the bus. This creates an environment in which remote operators can quickly intervene in emergencies, realizing efficient and safe operation management.
SMCCL partner Ohmio is known for developing next-generation self-driving buses and will play a key role in this project.
Ian Pulford, Ohmio’s UK Corporate Director, said of the collaboration with Soliton:
“The collaboration with Soliton Systems is a very important milestone for us in providing safe and reliable autonomous driving solutions. The adoption of Zao SDK not only enables remote control, but also transparent We are strengthening highly efficient operation management and increasing trust in autonomous driving technology.
Starting in Milton Keynes (a city approximately 80km north-west of London), the project will be rolled out to other UK cities. Large-scale autonomous vehicle trials are already underway linking Birmingham International Station and the UK National Exhibition Center.”
Going forward, SMCCL and Ohmio plan to equip all self-driving buses with remote control functionality as standard and roll out the technology across Europe.
Soliton Systems will continue to provide innovative solutions to improve the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving technology.
