The Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’ became the first Korean drama to top the world’s Netflix popularity rankings.

According to FlixPatrol, an online video service (OTT) ranking site on the 25th, ‘Squid Game’, which was released on the 17th, ranked first worldwide in the Netflix TV show category for two consecutive days until the 23rd and the 24th. ‘Squid Game’, which is being serviced in 83 countries around the world, is leading the way, beating the British drama ‘Otis’ Secret Consultation Center’, which can be seen in the same number of countries. This is the first time a Korean drama has topped this chart. Previously, ‘Sweet Home’ had the highest record in the US TV show category, which was #3.

‘Squid Game’ topped the list in most countries in Asia, North and South America, including the United States, the largest Netflix market, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. Of the 83 countries, 43 countries ranked first in the ‘Squid Game’. In Europe except Germany, ‘Otis’s Secret Consulting Center’ is relatively strong.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s ‘Squid Game’, who directed ‘The Crucible’ and ‘Miss Granny’, is a nine-part series depicting the process of 456 people risking their lives to play a survival game for a prize of 45.6 billion won each.
