[Taipei 28th Reuters]–Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen admitted in an interview with CNN that a small US military is stationed in Taiwan to train Taiwanese troops.

China, which claims Taiwan as part of its country, has increased military and political pressure on Taiwan in recent weeks.

In an interview aired on the 27th, President Cai said, “We are cooperating with the United States in a wide range of fields to improve our defense capabilities.”

When asked about the size of the US military stationed in Japan, he answered, “Not as many as people think.”

Chiu Kuo-cheng, Minister of Defense, told reporters about President Cai’s remarks that Taiwan-US military exchanges were “very frequent” and long-lasting.
