The Heads of State of the EAC ask Rwanda -M23- to lay down their arms and to favor dialogue with the DRC.
Bujumbura, 4/02/2023 – Consistent with the Foreign Policy of the Barundi including that of Globalization, in particular that of the East African Community (EAC), bringing together HE Tchisekedi Félix, President of RDC Congo; HE Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda; HE Kagame Paul, President of Rwanda; HE Suluhu Samia Hassan, President of Tanzania; HE Ruto William, President of Kenya; and Amb. Mayik Ayi, Representative of HE Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, HE Ndayishimiye Evariste (Major General), President of Burundi and Chairman of the EACproceeded to close the 20th Extraordinary EAC Heads of State Summit, held behind closed doors at Ntare Rushatsi House, regarding the difficult and deadly security situation in eastern DRC Congo caused by Rwanda through the -M23- rebellion. The Heads of State at this summit demanded an immediate ceasefire by all parties, the withdrawal of all armed groups and ordered the Chiefs of Defense Forces of the EAC to meet within a week, and end calling for dialogue.
