Doha ∙ Twitter is also abuzz with World Cup excitement. Tweets related to the World Cup have been viewed over 22 million times in the last 2 months. A monthly average of 79 percent of football tweets are shared among Twitter users in the Middle East.

Globally, 261 million people follow tweets with football content. There was a 39 percent increase in tweet sharing and a 29 percent increase in time spent viewing tweets.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency, Kinta Ibrahim, Director of Twitter Media Partnership at Mina, said that the number of people viewing tournament tweets will increase before and after the World Cup. The partnership agreement with BE Media Group, the official broadcasters of the FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and North Africa, was signed last August.

It aims to provide users with exclusive sports content related to the world’s biggest football tournament. The World Cup will be held between November 20 and December 18. The games will be held in 8 stadiums with first class facilities. More than 15 lakh people are expected to visit the country for the World Cup.
