The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has dismissed speculations regarding Iran’s alleged slowdown in its accumulation of near-nuclear-level enriched uranium. This follows a report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) suggesting such a development.

Blinken, while welcoming any efforts towards mitigating the escalating nuclear threat, emphasized the Biden administration’s unwavering commitment to its existing policy on Iran. He reiterated that the strategy of deterrence, pressure, and diplomacy will continue to guide their approach.

Addressing the recent release of detained Americans, who have now been placed under house arrest by Iran, Secretary Blinken affirmed that this event would not alter the administration’s general stance towards Iran. The United States remains resolute in its pursuit of safeguarding national interests through a cohesive strategy.

Last week, reliable sources indicated the likelihood of Iran releasing five US citizens, held captive, in exchange for the release of $6 billion in Iranian assets currently frozen in South Korea. As per this arrangement, four detainees have been transferred to house arrest in Tehran, while the remaining individual is expected to follow suit shortly.

Secretary Blinken demonstrated his commitment to facilitating the safe return of the detained Americans by personally reaching out to their families on the 14th.

A source familiar with the matter said last week that Iran could release five US citizens it had been holding in exchange for the release of $6 billion in Iranian assets frozen in South Korea. Iran allows four detained Americans to be released from a Tehran prison and placed under house arrest. One fifth are already under house arrest.

Brinken said he contacted the families of Americans who were placed under house arrest in Iran on the 14th.
