Valve Discontinues Support for Older Windows Operating Systems on Steam

Valve, which operates the largest PC gaming platform Steam, has discontinued support for the older Windows operating system.

According to foreign media, Steam has officially stopped supporting older Windows operating systems such as ▲Windows 7, ▲Windows 8 and ▲Windows 8.1 starting January 1st.

As a result, the Steam client cannot run on older Windows operating systems, and Windows must be updated to the latest version to run Steam or games purchased from Steam.

Additionally, Steam clients installed on an operating system whose support has ended will no longer receive updates containing security patches and technical support will not be provided.

According to Steam, more than 95% of Steam users use the Windows 10 and 11 operating system, and only a very small number of users use the Windows 7 and 8.1 operating system, 0.06% and 0.15% respectively.

Meanwhile, Steam also plans to stop supporting macOS High Sierra and Mojave starting February 15th.
