Reinforcements sent to Kharkiv

12:28 p.m.: Ukraine has sent military reinforcements to the border area in the northeastern Kharkiv region, according to its defense ministry. The ministry justifies the measures to support the troops there in fending off Russian attacks. Russian troops tried to break through the border with armored vehicles early in the morning, but were repulsed. However, the fighting continued “at varying degrees of intensity.”

12:23 p.m.: According to the governor of the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, Oleh Synehubow, Russian troops tried to break through the border with Ukraine. They have increased the shelling of the city of Vovchansk, which is located near the border with Russia, explains Synehubow on the Telegram short message service.

The attack attempts were repelled and the Ukrainian armed forces “confidently held their positions and did not lose a single meter.” Synehubow explains that Russia does not have the means to advance on the city of the same name, Kharkiv. The actions of Russian troops at the border are a “provocation.”

Ukraine must limit industrial production

12.10 p.m.: Ukraine apparently has to restrict industrial production. As the Ukrainian news portal “The Kyiv Independent” reports, the insufficient power supply is said to be responsible for the restrictions. Previously, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on the night of May 8 – according to The Kyiv Independent, it is the fifth attack on Ukraine’s energy supply this year.

The chairman of the state energy supplier Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrystyi, emphasized in an interview with the Ukrainian portal that Western energy imports could not fully compensate for the resulting supply deficits. The state energy company warns that there could also be emergency shutdowns in the energy supply in the future.

RIA: Fire at oil refinery in Kaluga, Russia, after drone attack

7:30 a.m.: According to a media report, an oil refinery caught fire in the Russian Kaluga Oblast following a Ukrainian drone attack. This is reported by the Russian state news agency RIA, citing insiders from emergency services. The fire at the “Pervyi Zavod” refinery in Kaluga destroyed three containers with diesel fuel and one with heating oil.

The governor of Kaluga, Vladislav Shapscha, previously said on the Telegram text message service that the fire in a company had been extinguished immediately. He left it open what type of company it was. In recent months, Ukraine has increasingly attacked energy facilities on Russian territory, primarily targeting fuel supplies for Russian troops.

Ukraine: Ten combat drones intercepted

6:30 a.m.: The Ukrainian military says it intercepted and destroyed all ten combat drones that the Russian armed forces launched on Friday night. Russia also fired two anti-aircraft guided missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force said on the Telegram short message service. What happened to the rockets remains unclear for now.

Zelenskyj fires bodyguard boss after foiled assassination attempt

8:46 p.m.: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has fired the head of his bodyguard after a foiled assassination attempt. Zelensky publishes a decree on the “dismissal of Serhiy Leonidovich Rud from the post of head of the Department of State Security of Ukraine.” The decree does not give any reasons for the change in personnel in the highly sensitive post.
