The speaker of OK “South” Natalya Gumenyuk said that due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, Crimea could be left without drinking water for years. The fact is that the island is very dependent on supplies from this station.

Already the so-called head of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, does not hide the fact that the explosion of the hydroelectric power station will have consequences for the vo. Kryma: “The North Crimean Canal is built in such a way that water flows by gravity to Crimea. Now the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir, from which the canal is fed, is rapidly falling. There may be problems with water supply.”


The Kakhovskaya HPP has been operating since the 1950s. The main tasks of the station were to ensure the regulation of the flow of the Dnieper for power supply, irrigation and water supply of the southern regions, as well as navigation from Kherson to Zaporozhye. The North Crimean Canal begins with this hydroelectric power station. It is from it that the temporarily annexed Crimea receives drinking water.

But on the night of June 6, the Russian military blew up a dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. According to local residents, there was only one explosion, but after it the structures began to collapse one after another. Subsequently V “Ukrhydroenergo” stated that the station is completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council because of the terrorist attack at the station. As a result, Secretary of the Security Council Alexei Danilov said that “nothing and no one, not a single Russian will stop the liberation of Ukraine, whose time has come.”
