The Kakhovskaya HPP has been operating since the 1950s. The main tasks of the station were to ensure the regulation of the flow of the Dnieper for power supply, irrigation and water supply of the southern regions, as well as navigation from Kherson to Zaporozhye. But on the night of June 6, the Russian military blew up a dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. President Volodymyr Zelensky called an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council because of the terrorist attack at the station. As a result, Secretary of the Security Council Alexei Danilov said that “nothing and no one, not a single Russian will stop the liberation of Ukraine, whose time has come.”
