Amazon’s MMORPG “New World”, more than 700,000 simultaneous connections from day one-Engadget Japanese version

Amazon Game Studios

The open world MMORPG “New World” developed by Amazon Game Studios in the United States has finally been officially released on Steam after being postponed four times over a year and a half.

You can purchase it on Steam from Japan, and the regular version (New World Retail) is on sale for 4200 yen, and the deluxe version (New World Deluxe Retail) is on sale for 5150 yen. Of these, the latter comes with a set of digital art books and bonus items in addition to the game itself. Once you buy the software and just keep playing, you don’t have to pay any additional fees and you don’t have to pay a monthly fee.

In the US, if you purchase the game and subscribe to Amazon Prime, you can get a free pirate pack until November 1st. The pack contains additional skins, emotes and $ 5 worth of in-game currency, but it’s not sold on Amazon Japan (Steam code is sold in the US) and domestic users won’t benefit. It seems that. In the first place, the game itself has neither Japanese support nor a Japanese server, so it is said that “Japanese users can play, but at their own risk”.

“New World” is inspired by the world of the 15th and 16th centuries, when the discovery and colonization of the new continent was flourishing. Players belong to one of the three factions and choose their jobs from various roles. It contributes to the prosperity of the faction. Originally scheduled to be released in 2020, there was a report that the element of “killing indigenous people who closely resembled Native Americans” was racist at first, and it was postponed due to work to dilute such element. ..

This work, which has finally been released, should be an important test for Amazon. Almost 10 years have passed since Amazon entered the game business, but there are no outstanding hits in the original work. Major works such as “Breakaway” and “Crucible” have also been cancelled, and MMOs with the theme of “The Lord of the Rings” have also been discontinued in April this year.

At the time of writing, the number of simultaneous Steam connections for “New World” reached more than 700,000 at the peak, showing a good start. It seems that Amazon’s game business will also be involved in the future of this work, so I would like to pray for a further big hit.
