Attacks on behalf of Iran?

Iran is said to have ordered attacks in Germany. But the Revolutionary Guards are not on the EU terror list. CDU foreign policy expert Röttgen sees Baerbock as responsible.

CDU foreign policy expert Norbert Röttgen accuses Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) of serious omissions in dealing with Iran. “I don’t see the slightest effort on the part of Ms. Baerbock to campaign at EU level for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to be listed as a terrorist,” Röttgen told the news portal t-online. “If the foreign minister wants the Revolutionary Guards to be listed as a terrorist – as she claims – then she now has more than enough evidence at her disposal.” The latest developments in the series of attacks on Jewish institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia speak for this.

Investigations in Germany expanded

“I find it unbelievable, to say the least, that the Foreign Minister is sticking to her assertion that there is no legal basis for listing the Revolutionary Guards in the EU as a terrorist group,” said Röttgen. “That was an excuse from the beginning of the debate, since investigations against members of the Revolutionary Guard, which are clearly taking place in Germany, the USA and Great Britain, are sufficient for a terrorist listing.” With the indictment and the extended investigation, Baerbock’s claim is “completely taken to the point of absurdity”.

In January, Baerbock advocated putting the Revolutionary Guards on the European Union’s terror list. In February, however, the Federal Foreign Office referred to hurdles under sanctions law. It is assumed that the requirements have not yet been fully met. Iran had threatened to sever diplomatic relations if the Revolutionary Guards were listed.
