DisplayPort 2.1 port support on AMD RDNA 3 GPU?

Former Intel-backed Kyle Benett tweeted the possibility that AMD’s upcoming RDNA 3 GPU could support the DisplayPort 2.1 standard.

In fact, DisplayPort 2.0 has been available since 2019, but NVIDIA’s GPU, which is the current trend, only supports Display 1.4ay. Currently, the only GPU that supports DisplayPort 2.0 is Intel’s Arc GPU.

NVIDIA once answered an official question about why they didn’t upgrade to the latest DisplayPort.

At that time, NVIDIA replied that even with the current DisplayPort 1.4 standard, 8K 60Hz support is already possible, and consumer displays are unable to use DisplayPort 2.0.

On the other hand, if the latest AMD RDNA 3 GPU supports the latest DisplayPort 2.1, support for resolution up to 16K, support for dual monitors 8K 120Hz, and support for 3 4K 90Hz will be possible.

It has not been confirmed whether it will be applied in practice or not, but the possibility is higher due to the recent comments from insiders and the patch notes that were leaked earlier this year.
