Mammootty Considered as Villain in Film ‘Jailer’ but Director Nelson Had Different Plans

Mammootty Not Suited for Negative Role, Says Actor Vasanth Ravi

Actor Vasanth Ravi recently shed light on the casting decisions made for the film ‘Jailer’, revealing that director Nelson initially had Mammootty in mind to play the villain. Ravi shared this information during an interview, stating that it was Rajinikanth himself who informed him of this on the set of the film, in which Ravi portrays Rajinikanth’s son.

Intriguingly, Rajinikanth disclosed that he had spoken to Mammootty soon after Nelson proposed him as the ideal choice for the antagonist’s role. However, Ravi revealed that after careful consideration, Mammootty and Rajinikanth both had apprehensions regarding the suitability of the role for the prominent Malayalam actor.

“Given his stature as a big actor within the Malayalam industry, Rajini sir himself had concerns about bringing Mammootty sir on board to play such a negative character,” Ravi confessed.

Furthermore, Ravi explained that he personally supported this decision, suggesting that Rajinikanth and Mammootty collaborate on an alternative film project instead. He firmly believed that the current course of action was the most appropriate one.

Nelson, the director of ‘Jailer’, also shared his thoughts on the matter during a recent interview. Contrary to popular belief, Nelson revealed that he did not see Mammootty as a necessary addition to the cast in the antagonist’s role. He clarified that while he desired a skilled artist for the part, Mammootty’s involvement would have taken the film in a different direction. Instead, the acclaimed director expressed his satisfaction with the uniqueness that Vinayakan brings to the character.

Actor Vasanth Ravi said that Mammootty was the first person that director Nelson had in mind as the villain in the film ‘Jailer’. Vasant revealed in an interview that Rajinikanth told him this on the sets of Jailer. Vasanth plays Rajini’s son in Jailer.

Mammootty sir was seen as the villain. Rajini sir himself had told me this on the set. He said he spoke to Mammootty sir as soon as Nelson said Mammootty would be fine. But after that I thought a lot. He is such a big actor in Malayalam. Rajni sir told me that he himself was worried about bringing them here and playing such a role.

He revealed that he felt that such a negative role would not suit someone like him and after that Mammootty called sir and told him that if we don’t do this, we can do another film together. I supported him too. I said that sir and Mammootty sir should make another film together and the decision taken now is appropriate.

Rajini sir felt that this negative role is not a suitable role for someone like Mammootty sir.”- said Vasanth Ravi.

Director Nelson also recently mentioned Mammootty in an interview. Nelson revealed that he didn’t think Mammootty was needed as the villain. “That’s not what Mammootty sir wanted, but he wanted a great artist. But if there were, it wouldn’t be like this. There is a novelty in the role of Vinayakan”.–Nelson’s words.
