A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when middle-aged women consumed more protein from plant-based foods like beans and nuts instead of meat, they were nearly 50 percent more likely to be healthier. healthy as you age. outside that is.

Researchers at Tufts University in the US looked at the Nurses’ Health Study, which tracked female healthcare professionals from 1984 to 2016. The women were aged between 38 and 59 in 1984 and were physically and mentally healthy at baseline of study.

The researchers looked at how often people ate certain foods to determine how dietary protein affects healthy aging. They also compared the diets of women without 11 chronic diseases to the diets of sick women.

The study found that women who ate lots of bread, vegetables, fruits, cereals, baked goods, mashed potatoes, nuts, beans, peanut butter and pasta, defined as plant-based proteins in 1984, had 46 percent more probability of being healthy until old age.

Specifically, in the case of heart disease, a higher intake of plant proteins was associated with lower levels of bad cholesterol, blood pressure and insulin sensitivity, while a higher intake of animal proteins was associated with higher levels of insulin-like growth factor, found in several tumors.
