MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said on Tuesday that Russia viewed South Korea’s decision to impose sanctions on Russian individuals and entities as an “unfriendly” move and would respond accordingly.

South Korea announced on the 2nd that it would impose sanctions on two Russian individuals and entities for their involvement in North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs. It also imposed sanctions on two Russian ships for their involvement in transporting military supplies to North Korea.

“This is an unfriendly measure by South Korea and it is extremely unfortunate. Imposing unjust sanctions will have a negative impact on relations with Russia,” Zakharova said at a press conference. “Russia is developing friendly neighborly relations with North Korea in accordance with the norms of international law without jeopardizing (South Korea’s) national security.”
