Original title: Tuopu Group: Model Y electric vehicle recalled because the knuckle strength does not meet the design requirements

According to Jiwei Net news, on December 5th, Tuopu Group issued the “Announcement of Tuopu Group Regarding Customer Recalls Involving the Company’s Products”, stating that Tesla, Inc, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Shanghai Tesla “) Respectively submitted recall reports or filing plans for some Model Y electric vehicles to the U.S. Highway Safety Administration and China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. The above-mentioned recall incident has attracted widespread market attention, and the management of Tuopu Group attaches great importance to it.

According to the announcement, Tesla, Inc’s recall report shows that Tesla, Inc filed an application with the U.S. Highway Safety Administration on November 21, 2021, and recalled production dates in the United States from June 16, 2020 to November 10, 2021. Part of Model Y electric vehicles, a total of 826 units. The reason for the recall is that the steering knuckle may be deformed or broken due to insufficient strength of the steering knuckle, which may cause the suspension link to fall out of the steering knuckle, which may affect the controllability of the vehicle and increase the risk of collision. The report shows that among the 826 Model Y units that may be involved in problems, it is estimated that the proportion of defects is 1%.

In addition, the announcement shows that on December 3, 2021, the recall plan filed by Shanghai Tesla on the website of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration of China revealed that: Shanghai Tesla intends to recall the production date in February 2021 from now on. Part of the domestically produced Model Y electric vehicles from the 4th to October 30th 2021, a total of 21,599 units. The reason for the recall is that the strength of the front and rear steering knuckles of some vehicles may not meet the design requirements. The steering knuckle may be deformed or broken during the use of the vehicle, and the suspension link may fall out of the steering knuckle under extreme stress conditions, which affects the driving control of the vehicle, increases the risk of collision accidents, and poses safety hazards.

In response to the above-mentioned matters, Tuopu Group has verified and explained as follows:

1. The steering knuckles for the Model Y electric vehicles involved in the recall are directly supplied to customers by the company.

2. The specific reason for this recall of the product: due to insufficient water level of the quenching tank in a heat treatment production line, individual products were not completely immersed in the quenching liquid, resulting in the strength of the steering knuckle that may not meet the design requirements. According to the company’s test results, the probability of defects in this batch of suspicious products is about 0.2%-1.0%.

3. Description of other relevant circumstances: The company’s recalled products only support Model Y models, and do not involve other Tesla models, nor do they involve other customers’ models.

Tuopu Group stated in the announcement that the company attaches great importance to this recall and has taken the following response measures to actively cooperate and assist customers in carrying out the recall:

1. The heat treatment production line has been rectified and improved to ensure that the product is fully quenched, and at the same time, 200% of the product hardness is tested.

2. 132 inspection instruments for identifying risky parts have been provided to service centers across Tesla, which can quickly complete the inspection and replace the identified defective products.

3. A problem handling and response committee has been established to quickly respond to customer needs within 24 hours.

Due to the swift action of the customer in this recall, and the recall work has not yet been completed, Tuopu Group is temporarily unable to determine the costs involved in this recall. Regarding the impact of this recall on the company, Tuopu Group added that the company considered the recall to be a non-significant event based on the number of recalls and defect ratios and would not have an impact on annual operating results, and this event would not affect the company’s business. Make an impact.
