US bombers flew over the Baltic Sea towards the Russian border

Did two US bombers fly towards the Russian border? This is reported by Russia’s Defense Ministry.

Two US bombers are said to have approached Russia, according to Russian sources. The two US Air Force B-52Hs flew over the Baltic Sea toward the borders of the Russian Federation, the Defense Department said in a Telegram message Monday.

A Russian Su-35 fighter jet had risen, it was said. When the US planes left the border, the Russian fighter plane returned to its base. The US has not commented on this.

The B-52H is a long-range heavy bomber that can be armed with nuclear and precision-guided conventional munitions, according to the Air Force website.

Russian planes are approaching western airspace more and more often

Over the Baltic Sea, there are repeated encounters between Western and Russian jets. The German Air Force intercepted four Russian aircraft together with British Air Force fighter jets last Friday. “There’s a lot going on over the Baltic Sea. Today, the alarm squad intercepted four Russian planes,” wrote the Bundeswehr on the “Team Luftwaffe” Twitter account. Here you can read more about it.

Russian planes approaching western airspace have become more frequent, especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A NATO official told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that 570 such missions were flown last year – almost twice as many as in 2021. Most of them took place over the Baltic Sea.
