If the COVID-19 situation worsens and immigration becomes more difficult, it may be canceled

(Tokyo = Yonhap News) Special Report = ‘Table Tennis Fairy’ Shin Yu-bin (17, Korean Air)’s ‘beep’ is expected to resound in the Japanese archipelago once again in the second half of the year.

According to the table tennis world on the 9th, Shin Yu-bin, who played an active part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will make her professional debut in the Japanese professional table tennis T-League, which will start a new season next month.

Shin Yu-bin and Kim Ha-young, a senior Korean Air senior, belong to Kyushu Astida, a new women’s team based in Fukuoka City, and will play the 2021-2022 season for about half a year.

The T-League, which started its first season in 2018, is growing into two major mountain ranges of the Chinese Super League and Asian professional table tennis.

The men’s division consists of 4 teams and the women’s division consists of 5 teams including Astida. While the league is held in a team match format, the women’s team will play 20 games per team.

Initially, the Tokyo metropolitan area team came first, but Shin Yubin chose the new team Astida.

Shin Su-hyeon, executive director of the Suwon City Table Tennis Association, Shin Yu-bin’s father, said, “Yubin decided to take into account the high risk of novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the metropolitan area and the fact that Astida is a new team, so she can get more opportunities to compete.” .

However, there are variables. If the quarantine situation changes and the procedures for leaving and returning to Japan become more complicated, Shin Yubin’s Japanese professional debut this season may be canceled.

Shin Yu-bin, who came to Japan two weeks after completing the vaccination, was exempt from self-quarantine, and immediately spent time with her family after returning from the Olympics.

However, if the situation changes and you have to quarantine for 14 days when entering and leaving Korea, it will be difficult to digest the T-League schedule between Korea and Japan.

Kang Moon-soo, manager of Korean Air, said, “I think that Shin Yu-bin’s appearance in the T-League will definitely help his performance. We will be very considerate,” he said.

On the other hand, Shin Yu-bin will compete fiercely with her sisters by participating in the representative selection for the World Championships to be held in Muju, Jeollabuk-do on the 17th and 19th.

Among the top two men’s and women’s singles world rankings, including Jung Young-sik, Jang Woo-jin (Mirae Asset Securities), Jeon Ji-hee (Posco Energy), and Seo Hyo-won (Korea Horse Association), are automatically selected as representatives of the world championships, and three men and three men are selected in this selection.

Shin Yu-bin competes with 7 athletes, including Hyo-joo Choi (Samsung Life Insurance), who participated in the Olympics together, and if they finish in the top three, they will participate in the World Championships to be held in Houston, USA on November 23rd.

Shin Yu-bin will also participate in the Asian Championships, which will start on September 28.
