Chittagong City Sees Violence During Student Anti-Discrimination Movement
A tragic incident occurred in Muradpur, Chittagong city, during a student anti-discrimination movement, resulting in the death of a furniture shop worker. The victim, Farooq (32), was shot during a clash between Chhatra League-Youth League activists and anti-discrimination student activists.
Mehedi Hasan Akash, Farooq’s son, filed a complaint in the Chittagong Additional Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, claiming that the police have been harassing the family of Abul Hashem Sumon, who was named as an accused in the murder case. However, it has been revealed that Sumon passed away in 2015.
According to court sources, the incident occurred on July 16, when Farooq was on his way to eat rice at Bahdarhat in the city. He was caught in the crossfire between the two groups and was fatally shot. The court has directed the investigating officer to take legal action in this regard.
Farooq was a shop worker at Shulkbahar furniture store in Chittagong city. His death has sparked outrage and concern among the community. The police have assured that they will investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
OC (Investigation) Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Panchlish Police Station, stated that the police will investigate the incident and determine who was involved in Farooq’s murder. He also denied claims of harassing Sumon’s family, stating that the police only went to their house to gather information.
