Ensuring Food Security: Evaluating Farmers’ Contributions
Adviser on Agriculture and Home Affairs to Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury emphasized the crucial role of farmers in ensuring the country’s food security and the success of agriculture. He stressed that farmers need to be evaluated to recognize their contributions.
Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in Dilkusha, the capital, he highlighted the importance of addressing issues related to fertilizer and seed supply, irrigation systems, and provision of services to farmers at the marginal level.
The agricultural adviser emphasized the need for accurate information about production costs to ensure farmers receive fair value for their crops. He also stressed the importance of stopping the unnecessary use of fertilizers and pesticides, which can cause long-term damage to the soil.
He instructed BADC officers to ensure timely distribution of fertilizers and seeds to farmers. Addressing the officers and employees, he encouraged them to work towards eradicating corruption and promoting a positive working environment.
The adviser later visited various BADC offices, accompanied by Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury and BADC Chairman Abdullah Sajjad.
