Naval Police Arrest 12 Fishermen for Violating Hilsa Breeding Protection Ban
The Naval Police arrested 12 fishermen on charges of hunting hilsa in violation of the ban on breeding protection in the Padma-Meghna river reserve area of Chandpur.
Four of the arrested fishermen were sentenced to prison in a mobile court, while five were booked in regular cases. Three minors were released on bail.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Naval Police Station HM Iqbal confirmed the arrests around 10 pm on Friday (November 1).

According to the Naval Police, with the assistance of the Task Force, the Naval Police carried out operations in the shelter area between Thursday evening and 8:30 Friday evening. At this time, one and a half lakh meters of current net, 42 kg of hilsa, and three old wooden fishing boats were seized.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Naval Police, HM Iqbal, said that the seized boat and the current net were evidence of the case. The confiscated hilsa fish has been distributed among the poor and needy.
