Normal to Relatively Hot Summer Weather Expected in August
According to Mr. Rayed Rafid Al Khattab, Director of the Meteorological Department, most parts of Jordan will experience normal to relatively hot summer weather at times, with hot to very hot weather prevailing in August 2024. The Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba will witness no heat wave in 2024, a significant departure from last year’s record-breaking heat wave that lasted 13 days in August 2023.
Temperature Averages in Amman
The average maximum temperature at Amman Civil Airport in August 2024 reached 33.3 degrees Celsius, a 0.4-degree increase from the normal monthly average. The average minimum temperature was 22.0 degrees Celsius, a 1.3-degree increase above its normal monthly average.
Recorded Temperature Extremes
The highest maximum temperature recorded at Amman Civil Airport in August 2024 was 35.6°C on August 19, while the lowest minimum temperature was 19.4°C on August 25.
Temperature Extremes Across the Kingdom
The Ghor Al-Safi monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature in August 2024, reaching 45.2 degrees Celsius on August 1. In contrast, the Shobak monitoring station recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 10.6°C on August 7.
Autumn Weather Forecast
Global numerical models indicate that average temperatures during the autumn months (September, October, and November) are expected to be higher than their normal average in the northern and central parts of the state and some southwestern regions, with a 70%-80% prediction probability. Temperatures are expected to be higher than the normal rate by about 1.0-1.5 degrees Celsius in the south and east of the state, with a probability of up to 90%.
Fall Season Rainfall
Most global numerical models suggest that rainfall in the fall season of 2024 will be below the normal average in most regions of the state, with a probability between 40%-50%.
