Spreading Joy and Compassion: North South University’s Social Services Club Visits Elderly Rehabilitation Center
The Social Services Club of North South University organized a day of fun and companionship for the elderly residents of the Givenchy Group Elderly Rehabilitation Center in Gazipur’s Hotapara district, Manipur.
About 100 club members, along with Faculty Advisor Mejbah Ul Hasan Chowdhury, attended the event on Friday, September 27. The event was supported by Biogen, KT MO, and United Health Care.
The club members aimed to bring joy and enthusiasm to the elderly by engaging in various activities. They played popular games, sang old-time songs, and even arranged for a cartoonist, Syed Rashed Imam Tanmoy, to create colorful artwork. Additionally, the club organized a tree-planting program to promote environmental awareness, with Asian Paints as their paint partner.
The club members also distributed essential medicines and wheelchairs among the elderly residents. Another highlight of the event was the decoration of the old age home’s walls and courtyard with traditional Alpanas.
Maureen Islam, the club president, emphasized the importance of giving back to society. “As students, we often get caught up in our busy lives, but events like ‘Accompaniment’ remind us of the value of contributing to our community. Spending time with the elderly is a powerful experience that inspires us to make a positive impact.”
Mezbaul Hasan Chowdhury, Faculty Advisor of the Social Service Club, noted that caring for the elderly helps build a compassionate society. “This event will inspire future generations to embrace compassion and social responsibility. Through social activities, we aim to inspire young people to develop their thinking and make a positive difference in the world.”
The Social Services Club of North South University was established in 1994 as a student organization, with a mission to promote social responsibility and community engagement among its members.
