Former Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon Arrested
Former Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon was taken into custody by police on Monday night, September 16, from room number 833 at Shyamli Bangladesh Specialist Hospital in the capital.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari police station, Farooq Ahmed, confirmed the arrest to Jago News, stating that there was a case against him and further legal action is pending.
Early Life and Education
Nurul Islam Sujan was born in 1956 in Maidandighi of Boda Upazila of Panchagarh. He pursued law studies and was the affairs secretary of the Daksur Science Auditorium while studying at Dhaka University. He was also a member of Dhaka University Senate.
Political Career
Nurul Islam Sujan first participated in the 8th National Parliament election in 2001 as an Awami League candidate but was defeated by BNP candidate Mozahar Hossain in the Panchagarh-2 seat.
However, he was elected as the first Member of Parliament in the 9th National Parliament Election in 2008. He was re-elected for a second time in the 10th National Parliament Election in 2014, defeating Jasd candidate Emran Al Amin.
In the 2018 national parliamentary election, he was elected as a member of parliament for the third time and took charge of the Railways Ministry of the new government.
Professional Career
Nurul Islam Sujan is a senior lawyer in the Supreme Court and was also a lawyer in the Bangabandhu murder case.
