Mild Earthquake Hits Rangpur and Surrounding Areas
A mild earthquake was felt in Rangpur and surrounding areas on Friday, September 6, at 8:28pm. The tremor lasted a few seconds.
Rangpur Meteorological Office meteorologist Mostafizar Rahman confirmed the earthquake, stating that the epicenter was 21 km from Samsi in Bhutan, with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale. Fortunately, no damage was reported.
According to India’s National Seismological Center (NCS), the earthquake originated at a depth of 5 km in the ground, approximately 62 km from Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported a slightly higher magnitude of 4.5.
