The prosecution, which is investigating former Star Mobility chairman Kim Bong-hyun, a key figure in the ‘Lime Crisis’, has prosecuted Representative Ki Dong-min and Lee Su-jin (proportionally) of the Democratic Party of Korea . The 6th Criminal Division of the South Seoul District Prosecutor’s Office (Chief Lee Joon-dong) announced that it had charged Rep. Ki without detention on charges such as violating the Political Funds Act and violating the Serious Punishment for Specific Crimes Act. Representative Ki is suspected of receiving 100 million won in political funds and a 2 million suit won by former Chairman Kim and former Star Mobility CEO Kang-se Lee from February to April 2016 in the name of election funds and mediation licenses and related licenses to a cargo terminal site in Yangjae-dong. Representative Lee was indicted without detention in February 2016 on charges of receiving 50 million won in political money from former chairman Kim and others. Prosecutors also transferred two people to trial without custody, including Kim Young-chun, a former Democratic Party lawmaker, and Kim Kap-soo, a former Uri Party deputy spokesman, who are accused of receiving 5 million in political money. won and 50 million won, respectively. Prosecutors decided to charge them before the statute of limitations on their charges had expired. Suspicion of giving money to Congressman Ki and others arose when former Chairman Kim said he gave money and valuables to Congressman Ki before and after the 2016 general election in a prosecutor’s investigation after he was arrested in April 2020. At the time, Representative Ki said, “I have nothing to do with the Calch incident. There was no fact of receiving political money, and there was no contact or meeting with Mr. Kim Bong-hyun during the last four years of his term in the National Assembly.” Former chairman Kim was sentenced to 30 years in prison in the first trial on the 9th for withdrawing 125.8 billion won, including money from Star Mobility and Suwon passengers. He was released on bail in July 2021 and was tried without custody, and on the day of the final trial on November 11 last year, he broke off the electronic anklet worn under bail conditions and fled.
