United for a Healthier Tomorrow: Director General Calls for Collective Action
Improving the Health Sector through Joint Efforts
The Director General of the Department of Health emphasized that the health sector can only improve through the collective efforts of everyone. Md. Abu Jafar stressed the importance of teamwork in achieving this goal.
He highlighted that working together as a team can help minimize errors and ultimately move the health sector forward. This sentiment was expressed at a workshop held at the National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery in the capital on Monday, October 28.
The three-day workshop, which began on October 26, brought together over 150 local and foreign doctors. The Director General of the Health Department noted that many surgeons in the country have received training abroad and are utilizing their skills to benefit the nation.
He emphasized that it is the duty of doctors to provide medical services to the people, and that everyone must work together to achieve this goal. The Director General also acknowledged that many patients in the country do not receive appropriate treatment, highlighting the need for improvement.
Breast Cancer Treatment in Bangladesh
Professor Dr. Raihana Awal, Director of the Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery, revealed that approximately 14 to 15 thousand breast cancer patients are diagnosed in the country every year. Unfortunately, many of these patients are diagnosed at a late stage, resulting in more severe cases that sometimes require amputation.
Dr. Awal noted that breast reconstruction in plastic surgery has not yet begun in Bangladesh. However, with the help of foreign doctors who regularly perform this operation, local doctors will gain the necessary skills to start this work in the country.
The workshop was organized by expatriate doctors from Bangladesh who have formed an academy to improve the skills of local doctors and maintain international standards.
Improving Skills and Providing Appropriate Treatment
Professor Dr. Raihana Awal expressed hope that the workshop will enable local doctors to provide appropriate treatment for breast cancer patients in the future. The workshop has brought together almost all plastic surgeons in the country, with the exception of a few.
