Jetnet-BD Soars to New Heights: Pioneering a Sustainable Energy Revolution
The country’s largest energy network ‘Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh (JETNET-BD)’ has made its debut with the aim of a sustainable and fair energy transition. The network was established with 75 civil society organizations (CSOs), national and international development organizations, local organizations, experts in the energy sector and environmentalists.
The network made its debut on Thursday (September 26) at an event organized at a hotel in Gulshan in the capital.
Jetnet-BD will work to increase regional cooperation with campaigns for energy governance, cost-effective energy, green employment, women’s participation in fair and green energy transition, energy efficiency, energy conservation, environmental and urban protection, campaigns.
After the establishment of the network, a 14-point citizens’ demand campaign for energy transfer only was published under the guidance and supervision of energy and environment experts.
Abul Kalam Azad, Just Energy Transition (JET) Team Manager of ActionAid Bangladesh, said, ‘The functional aim of Jetnet-BD is to highlight the strong voice of civil society and mobilize everyone for a green and sustainable energy-dependent future. This collaborative network will be dedicated to achieving a sustainable energy transition in the country by promoting renewable energy, building the capacity of the member organisations, ensuring environmental protection and influencing policy makers.’
Director of Research at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Khandakar Golam Moazzem said that the government should consider how to advise the government so that no new coal power plants are built in the future and the existing projects are retired quickly. There is a need for a detailed action plan and its implementation in the light of building a supply chain based on renewable energy with the help of Jetnet-BD.”
World Bank Senior Energy Specialist Mbuso Gofila said moving away from the monotonous impact of solar power, more attention can be paid to biogas and biomass power generation and technology innovation at the local level.
During the event, former director general of Power Cell BD Rahmatullah, World Bank Senior Energy Specialist Mbuso Gofila, GIZ Bangladesh Cluster Coordinator Stwanka Stitch, European Union Bangladesh Environment and Energy Program Manager Tanzina Dilshad, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Representative said Mashiur Rahman, Jetnet-BD Sanjida Network Coordinating Committee Member More than 100 civil society organizations (CSO), officials of national and international development organizations, experts in the environment and energy sector from local organizations, and media personnel were present, including Sultana .
