This information was given in a press release sent by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday evening (November 6).
According to ISPR, around 5:30 pm on November 5, tension was created in the Hazari Lane area of Teribazar in Chittagong city based on an anti-ISCON Facebook post by a person named Osman Ali. Around 500-600 rioters gathered at Hazari Lane to kill Osman Ali and his brother and set shops on fire.
Based on the information received from the local control room, 6 patrol teams from Bangladesh Army, Police and BGB members quickly reached the area.
Due to the large number of terrorists, joint forces rescued Osman Ali and his brother from the area to protect lives and prevent mob justice.
Despite securing the agitated crowd compensation through due process of law, the wrongdoers at one point became more aggressive.
The miscreants then attacked the forces with acid used in jewelery and started hurling broken glass bottles along with heavy bricks. Because of this, 7 police officers including 5 members of the army were injured.
5 members of the army are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Combined Military Hospital. Also, a miscreant broke the windscreen of an army pick-up van by removing a brick on the spot.
ISPR also said that after this operation, when 10 patrol teams of joint forces reached Hazari Lane area at night to identify the miscreants, the undercover criminals started throwing acid-like objects on the joint forces again.
At this time, the joint forces arrested 80 suspects from the scene.
Currently, the process of identifying the real criminals is going on by checking the footage from various CC cameras and intelligence information, ISPR said.
The matter of handing over the prisoners to court through an appropriate legal process along with necessary questioning at the police station in question is being processed.
Joint operations continue to bring the situation under control and security has been beefed up in other areas of the city, including Hazari Gali. ISPR also said that the joint force operation will continue to maintain law and order in the country.
